"Valuing Plastic" was launched by the Plastic Disclosure Project (of Ocean Recovery Alliance), Trucost, and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in June 2014 at the UN Environmental Assembly in Nairobi. This is a world-first report on the natural capital cost of plastic, based on 100 globally listed consumer goods companies. The goal was not to name and shame companies for using plastic, as we all need it in our daily lives and businesses, but to show that there is a cost to using plastic when not treated properly after its initial use. Not only are there risks for companies who are not managing their resources well, including potential brand exposure liability, but there are also great opportunities in recycling, design, innovation and new materials. Please feel free to download the full report at http://bit.ly/PDPreport2014
Plastic Disclosure Project (PDP) works with companies on behalf of investors and other stakeholders who support PDP's annual disclosure request. The request ensures that companies measure and disclose their plastic footprint and assess their strategies to reduce the environmental impact of plastic.
To be a supporter of PDP, one can endorse PDP's annual disclosure request, encourage participation or provide financial support.

The cultural and educational Hong Kong Ocean Film Festival and the Singapore Ocean Film Festival are being held between February and April 2013! The events are in collaboration with the San Francisco Ocean Film Festival, which will turn 10 years old in March. The Ocean Film Festivals link both cities and communities, on each side of the Pacific, together with a celebration of ocean films, awareness and appreciation.
The Hong Kong Ocean Film Festival is also excited to be holding a short film competition, 'Aggreg8', whereby people in the community will build a film around the theme 'My Ocean...'

Following the success of the Plasticity Forum in Rio last year, the 2013 forum will take place in Hong Kong this May/June.
It will explore the innovations and solutions that leaders in their respective industries and communities are undertaking to ensure that plastic and used material is treated as a resource, therefore minimizing its impacts on our shared global ecosystem. With Hong Kong being at the doorstep of production, sourcing and global supply chain/CSR initiatives, it is a perfect venue for a big discussion on the opportunities that present those who want to lead.

"Global Alert" was announced by Ocean Recovery Alliance at a Clinton Global Initiative as a solution to address the problem of increasing marine debris flowing to our ocean. Global Alert is an innovative, online tool that will increase interaction and connectivity to the issue by allowing users to report, rate and map plastic pollution levels in their rivers via mobile devices and web-based platforms. This will broaden awareness, aggregate information flow, and spur solutions to reduce plastic debris outflows via the world's rivers.
Ocean Recovery Alliance welcomes your support for "Global Alert"

Join us in Rio for the Earth Summit in June. We will be hosting a side event called Plasticity (www.plasticityforum.com), which is all about the future of plastic, and where the leaders are going. The benefactor is the environment, our communities, and ultimately the ocean.
