MAKNA is a not-for-profit Malaysian social enterprise created in 1994. The organisation is named after the Malay word for 'meaning' and our slogan is ‘A Meaning to Life’.
It is tasked to pool and utilise effort, expertise and financial aid from every fraction of society to fight cancer and reduce the related pain, suffering and morbidity that cancer patients and their families experience.
Our Core Activities are:
Fundraising (unique and creative campaigns)
Treatment (our own ward in HUKM)
Awareness (talks, exhibitions, screening, road shows, etc
Research (collaborates with various institutions of higher learning)
Support services (bursary, microcredit and scholarship programs; emotional support)
MAKNA’s logo consists of a periwinkle flower, popular across the country. The periwinkle contains the alkaloids vincristine and vinblastine, used in chemotherapy treatment. Therefore, MAKNA adopted the periwinkle as a symbol of hope in the battle against cancer.
