REFERENDUM INFORMATION IN ISL
Two information videos have been produced in ISL in relation to the upcoming referendum on the Fiscal Stability Treaty. The first, by the Irish Deaf Society, is a guide to the contents of the Treaty. The Referendum Commission has translated its Summary of the Fiscal Treaty into ISL. The Commission’s website – www.referendum2012.ie – has extensive information in English about the Treaty, including sections on What You are Being Asked in the Referendum and a Glossary of Terms. ORDERING LUNCH BY TEXT MESSAGE
Tralee’s Supervalu supermarket on Rock Street recently launched a new service where customers of the shop can place orders to the deli counter by text message. Customers can order lunchtime hot and cold food, such as sandwiches, wraps, chicken pieces etc. by texting the details of the order with their name, phone number and collection time to the shop. CORK MIDSUMMER FESTIVAL CAPTIONED PERFORMANCES
Captioning will be provided at some performances at this year’s Cork Midsummer Festival. The festival, which runs from 21st June to 1st July, has a varied programme, with visual art, theatre, dance and a festival market.
One of the captioned performances, “Silent”, won the Fringe First and Herald Angel Awards at Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2011. “Silent” tells the story of a homeless man, McGoldrig, who once had splendid things. But he has lost it all – including his mind.

EUROPEAN DEAFBLIND UNION
The First European Blind Union (EBU) Deafblind Women’s Forum will be held this October in Bulgaria. The theme of the forum will be: “Deafblindness: we, the women. Being a recognized deafblind woman with equal rights in modern society”.
The forum will mark the start of a week of conferences and activities organised by the European Blind Union (EBU) and European Deafblind Union (EDBU) from 22nd to 29th October 2012. It will be followed by the 7th European Blind Union (EBU) Deafblind Conference, which will discuss "Participation and inclusion into society". The week will end with the two day EDBU General Assembly.
