In one of its largest relief operations in years, Caritas Internationalis is helping over 800,000 people who lost homes, loved ones and livelihoods during Typhoon Haiyan in 2013.
Local name Yolanda, the storm was one of the most powerful ever recorded and left millions without food, clean water, and shelter.
From shelter to replacing household goods, farming and livelihoods, clean water and food, and education and safeguarding against future disasters, over 43 Caritas national organisations supported the emergency response led by Caritas Philippines-NASSA.
Caritas Philippines-NASSA National Director, Bishop Broderick Pabillo said after the storm, “The help we are getting is coming from every Catholic soul in the world.”
In a unique approach, Caritas is working with over 100 communities to give them charge of their own rebuilding programme as reconstruction efforts continue.
