I have always said i would love to see a day when all of the orphanages are closed down. Belarus yesterday officially decided to go down that road.
Here is the link to the news that Belarus is to close orphanages in favour of homes which would each accommodate 10 children and which would be clustered with 10-12 to an individual area.
For the past six months IODP has been reviewing its strategy in Belarus. Having helped turn around the 11 worst Belarusian orphanages we feel our work is nearing completion. We will still visit for the foreseeable future and will still provide Santa but our efforts in Belarus will be applied largely to the disabled children who may not benefit as fully from the move to close down institutions.
