It takes between 1 and 2.5 gallons of water to refine a gallon of gasoline. However, it takes 3 to 6 gallons of water to produce a gallon of ethanol from corn. And in dry areas where corn feedstock is grown, it takes between 1000 and 1500 gallons of water to grow 1 gallon of ethanol. When considering this from a water resources standpoint the future of corn from ethanol becomes clear. So why is corn to ethanol being subsidizes in the farm bill?
