There's an interesting article on Yahoo today ( http://green.yahoo.com/blog/forecastearth/49/you-don-t-still-use-a-screen-saver-do-you.html ) about the substantial energy savings yielded from turning off screen savers on PCs with LCDs - as there is no burn-in or other technical reason to run them when a PC is not in use. As well as the energy savings from the LCD itself, I suspect there would be an even higher one from the CPU, especially where there was a graphically intense screensavers - many newer CPUs slow down when they are not at a high load.
