A group of committed volunteers helped Half the Sky opened its newest Blue Sky Model Children's Center in Urumqi, Xinjiang: Check out Days 1-4 of their blogs at: http://www.halfthesky.org/journal/?p=197.
Half the Sky just opened its 44th Children Center in Urumqi, the capital of China’s Xinjiang Province. Security was tight and there was no internet or international phone service because Urumqi was the site of recent violent clashes.
Undaunted, four of our work crew volunteers, Will from New York, Kathryn from Tulsa, Lauren from San Francisco, and Mike from Portland kept blogs; Kei from Shanghai wrote daily, touching emails to her young children. We will be posting excerpts from their wonderful accounts just as they wrote them—daily for the next 12 days.
A huge thanks to our entire work crew, and to all of our donors who made the opening of our 8th Blue Sky Model Center possible.
