Un progetto ambizioso: un cromosoma artificiale per aprire la strada al trapianto autologo di staminali. La prima fase dello studio, condotto da Giulio Cossu, durerà tre anni.
Giunge dunque ad un primo traguardo la lunga marcia solidale che per tanti mesi ha sostenuto il Fondo Daniele Amanti che, su iniziativa di Fabio Amanti, è stato istituito presso Parent Project Onlus per finanziare uno o più progetti di ricerca che potessero approcciare anche le mutazioni meno comuni tra quelle che causano la distrofia muscolare di Duchenne.
L’obiettivo della ricerca, è quello di correggere geneticamente cellule staminali (i mesoangioblasti) distrofiche mediante un cromosoma artificiale umano contenente il gene sano della Distrofina e procedere al trapianto autologo. Gli esperimenti saranno inizialmente condotti su topi mdx.
Il progetto, condotto da Giulio Cossu e dal suo team di ricercatori della Divisione di Medicina Rigenerativa del San Raffaele di Milano in collaborazione con il gruppo giapponese di Mitsuo Oshimura della Tottori University, ha la durata di tre anni ed è finanziato da Parent Project Onlus, attraverso il Fondo Daniele Amanti, con 280.000 euro.

An ambitious project, an artificial chromosome to open the way for autologous stem cells transplantation. The first phase of the study, led by Giulio Cossu, will last three years.
This is the first target of the long march of solidarity that for many month supported the Daniele Amanti Fund set up at Parent Project Onlus, by the initiative of Fabio Amanti, to fund one or more research projects that could even approach the mutations less common among those that cause Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
The aim of this research is to genetically correct dystrophic stem cells (the mesoangioblasts) with a human artificial chromosome containing the normal gene of dystrophin and proceed to autologous transplantation. The experiments will initially be conducted on mdx mice.
The project, led by Giulio Cossu and his team of researchers from the Division of Regenerative Medicine of the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan in collaboration with the Japanese Mitsuo Oshimura of Tottori University, has a duration of three years and is funded by Parent Project Onlus, by Daniele Amanti Fund, with € 280,000.
