THE garden of a community education centre in the South inner city was completly overhauled last week thanks to the efforts of a group of volunteers from the nearby Diageo brewery.
D8CEC - a community education centre located on James's Street historic Liberties area of Dublin - played host to the volunteers on Thursday (May 28th) as part of a local initiative that encourages employees to contribute their skills to improve local amenities.
According to Marie Mulvihill, director, the work of the volunteers is invaulable to the centre.
"Last yeaar was the first time that volunteers from Diageo worked on our garden and as a result it became a fantastic addition to the centre throughout the summer months." she explained.
"Not only were our learners able to enjoy the garden as a recreational space, but we were also able to incorporate different aspects of gardening into some of our ecducational activites."
D8CEC provides second chance education to over 300 members of the local community in Dublin 8, with a particular focus on providing the skills necessary for progression to employment or further study.
