Germany’s Relief Coalition (Aktion Deutschland Hilft) is calling for donations from German citizens to help the victims of the earthquake in Haiti, one of the poorest countries in the world. According to the initial estimates, the damage is particularly serious as the epicentre was located at the city limits of the highly populated capital, Port au Prince. Around 80 percent of Haitians live on less than two US dollars (1.38 Euros) per day, and half of them live on less than one US dollar.
The member organisations of the German Relief Coalition, who have been working in Haiti for several decades, have already begun distributing relief items and food. Plans have also been made to send in medical teams from Germany.
According to the information from Haiti, the airport at Port au Prince has now been reopened for transport aircraft. Passenger aircraft are not currently landing, however.
Thank you all so much for your support!!!
