Bubu the baby bear is now in rehab, learning what to eat so that he can go back to the wild. The current challenge is to find the $1400 we will need to cover his release costs. All help welcomed!

Thank you Bubu. It's great to see you too. I think sometimes us spoiled folks over here forget what you have to go through just to use the internet! We're working on staying warm here in Canada now and I sure hope you're working on your bear skills so you'll be all ready when you step out into the big, beautiful world!
Hugs, Cindy
xxx ooo
I'm in rehab, learning to be a wild bear, and it's great! Thank you to everyone who helped me to get this far! xoxo
Oh Katherine, thank you so much! I think more fur fell out at the news of the cancelled donation, (and even my assistant is losing her fur as well), but hopefully things will improve now we can all calm down.
I am now in my temporary new home and will put up some pictures soon - it's much nicer here so I think my fur should grow back a bit.
Big hugs to you,
Bubu xoxo
Bubu!, there It is a temporary glitch...the donation in question is there. Just as you have a great team that guarantees security, ammado does the same for donations, donors and recipients. So, in a few days, you will see your true amount, including the handsome donation, return.
And aren't you a smart bear there with your math hat on!
How is your hair, by the way?
Bubu is going through quite a "teenage" stage at the moment, it's a good thing I am fond of him....;-) And no, I don't think the people at the ice cream shop would be too thrilled to meet him up close.... gorgeous as he is, I think it would breach hygiene regulations...
If you would like to spread the word about Bubu, you could post this:
"Help an orphaned bear cub get back to the wild where he belongs. Bubu is a spectacled or Andean bear, an endangered species, and his release will not only get him out of a small cage, but also give him the chance to breed and so improve the genetic diversity of inbred bears in Ecuador's fragmented cloudforests so the species can avoid exinction."
on your profile, with a link to this community or to Bubu's profile here on ammado and/or on Facebook.
Please tell all your friends and encourage them to donate and spread the word. We have until the end of February - 3 days left!
Well, yes, I have been thinking of escape, but unfortunately the people who built the cage thought about it too, and so it doesn't seem to be possible. A shame, because Sarah says there is a place just up the road that does excellent ice cream... though she says she doesn't want me anywhere near the road. (She is a bit of a spoilsport in such matters sometimes, I am sure the people in the icecream shop would love to see me....)
Now that Sarah has got excited about the excellent anonymous donation, and burnt her toast, and hopefully now calmed down again, I will get her to write something everyone can use to tell the world about me!
Sarah! Bubu! Have a look at the latest conversations about your friends wanting to spread the word, via ammado, facebook and the rest... you are getting the attention you deserve! Keep updating us. Are you really thinking of escape Bubu? And what would happen if you did...are you in a village, countryside or somewhere dangerous if you got out?
Bubu is right, we need $3000 to put a roof on the rehabilitation cage and mend a couple of bits. (Andean bears are very good climbers, planned liberation is one thing, unplanned escape would be different and not good ;-)
The whole rehabilitation and liberation process costs around $50,000. But the $3000 would be a great start! Donations can be made through the "Baby Bear needs help" community here on ammado. Bubu will be very grateful! He is getting bigger every day and it would be wonderful if we could get the money together by the end of February to mend the cage in March and move Bubu in April.
Alternatively, if anyone in Ecuador can donate heavy-gauge wire netting and poles rather than cash, that would also be extremely useful.
Hi Kathryn,
they tell me that I have to go to a bigger cage (yes!!!!) a long way from anywhere, so I get used to not seeing people much. I have to finish getting bigger (that just seems to be happening anyway, me getting bigger) so that I won´t be got by a puma. And I have to learn what to eat. (I did tell Sarah that I eat almost anything anyway, but she said that´s not the point... apparently they are going to give me plants that grow in the area, and worms and things).
All this will take a year. Then they will let me go! ;-)
I am really excited about all this (not sure if there will be avocadoes where I´m going, which is a bit of a worry, but otherwise looking forward to it). BUT they say they can´t start until they raise $3000 to put a roof on the rehabilitation cage.
Can you help?
Hi Bubu! What do you need to learn and how do you get "rehabilitated"? Does it take long? I'm sure you'll be a top student!
