School has educated 25,000 Korean bartenders on Responsible Drinking
Diageo Korea’s bartending academy, the Johnnie Walker School, set up to educate the bartending community on Responsible Drinking and alcohol appreciation, recently celebrated its 20th anniversary.
Founded in 1989, the Johnnie Walker School has trained 25,000 Korean bartenders – 20 percent of the country’s bartending community. In addition, as each trainee must produce an original cocktail before graduation, the school has inspired the creation of 250 new cocktails.
A special ceremony, attended by 150 Johnnie Walker School graduates, as well as Diageo personnel, was held to commemorate the anniversary. During the ceremony, graduates of the Johnnie Walker School demonstrated their cocktail-making and bartending skills.
Kim Jong-Woo, Diageo Korea CEO, said, “I believe that the Johnnie Walker School has played an instrumental role in engendering a culture of Responsible Drinking in Korea and increasing the level of professionalism in the industry. In addition, every single Diageo Korea employee acts as a Responsible Drinking ambassador.”
