Eco-warriors get green fingers helping to combat carbon emissions.
Diageo China employees and their families traded suits for Wellington boots last month when they took part in the official Chinese Tree Planting Day at Baiguoyuan Farm in the Qingpu District of suburban Shanghai. The initiative, aimed at raising awareness of the potential harm of excess CO2 in the atmosphere, demonstrates Diageo China employees’ commitment to assisting the community in which they work.
The excursion was organised in conjunction with a number of environmentally focused NGOs. Not only did participants learn about climate change and the benefits to planting trees (both in reducing carbon emissions and effects of soil erosion) but they were also able to pick their own organic vegetables from the farm to take home.
Lu Haiqing, Corporate Relations Director, Greater China, said, “This was a great opportunity for employees to play a small but significant role in Chinese Tree Planting Day. I am very glad that so many of our staff took the time to enjoy the day’s activities with their families. It is exactly this type of enthusiasm that makes us such a strong team and respected corporate citizen.”
