Project to provide between 10,000 – 14,000 people with 40 million litres of water per year
Diageo India’s latest ‘Water for Life’ rainwater harvesting programme in New Delhi is expected to provide up to 40 million litres of water per year to between 10,000 – 14,000 people in the northern region of India.
Diageo has teamed up with the Forum for Organised Resource Conservation and Enhancement (FORCE), a leading water conservation non-governmental organisation (charity), to construct rainwater harvesting structures to replenish 50 currently-abandoned tube-wells in Delhi. These will provide the local community with greater access to clean water and advance environmental conservation directly in line with the UN’s Millennium Development Goals.
Lin Menuhin, Corporate Social Responsibility Director, Diageo Asia Pacific, said, “Its gives us great pleasure to be able to contribute to the local community in Delhi. We have a long-standing relationship with India through our brands and it is important that we also invest in the social well-being of the communities.”
The project, supported by Delhi Jal board, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Delhi Development Authority and Central Groundwater Board, was dedicated to the residents of Delhi at a function attended by over 300 people as well as guest of honour, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
