We want to experiment with using a satellite collar on an Andean bear to understand more about the bears which live in the deepest parts of the virgin cloud forest where we can´t follow them with radio telemetry. This will be a world first. We need around $6000 to buy, fit and operate the satellite collar.
Andean bears are endangered due to habitat loss and hunting. The bears have started to eat maize, which brings them into conflict with local farmers in poor rural communities, so we need to find a land management strategy so that people and bears can coexist. To do this, we have to understand the bears´ behaviour. The bears are timid and live in remote areas in mountainous terrain.
Please help us to better understand the needs of the Andean bears before it´s too late.
Amount raised is approximate as exchange rates vary.

Many thanks to those of you who have donated so far. Keep those donations coming in, we still have a way to go before we can buy the satellite collar.
Thank you!
